There's a lot to learn, but I will be reading the book that accompanied my new camera (woo hoo!!) to figure it all out.
In the meantime, I had a play with it, using the only child still at home - and therefore the most photographed one, as my model.

If you didn't get a 50mm 1.8 lens with your camera, I would get one. They are the cheapest lens, but they are great for portraits. They give really good bokeh (blurry background). It is the lens I use the most, especially when photographing the kids
