Sewing for me!

I know!! For me!
Don't fall off your chair.

I've been really slack in blogging this - I have never been able to get The Guy Who Lives here to grab a shot of me wearing this tunic, so today I bit the bullet and took a couple of dodgy ones myself.
Bad hair, spotty mirror and all.

This is the Portfolio tunic by Sew Lisette - a Simplicity pattern created by Leisl Gibson - the brains behind the Oliver+s kids range of patterns.

I didn't intend to get all these patterns but they were on sale in the US for $1 each - I kid you not.
So a lovely lady helped me procure all four of them - expect to see more sewing for me in the future...

The soap dispenser and cat toothbrush are a nice touch I think - keepin' it real!

I actually made it way back when I was at craft camp with the other ladies.

It is really comfortable and easy to wear and I love the way the pockets work - it's hard to tell from this shot but there is a seam running from the black square tab at the neck down to the line of the pockets.

I made this up in some Kitty Yoshida fabric. It's from her Brooklyn Heights range and I think this design is called String Necklace.  I have had it for ages, intending to make something for me - so I am glad I kept it and waited.

Donna bought some of the same print in a different colour when we were at Sew It Together and made herself a skirt - check it out. It's a lovely print.

I teamed it with some black linen - just to break the pattern a bit.

Aren't photo's you take of your own bum unflattering no matter how you do it!

I made the tunic (View B) which has no sleeves and instead of putting a cuff on I added the band from View A to complete the look of it.

It has two buttons at the neck to close it and it was nice and easy to construct, though I did get some advice on how to best do the pocket seam.

Size wise for this - I found it a little tricky as I am in a mix of sizes from bust to waist to hips.
I can't actually recall which size I made but I remember I went larger then ran it in heaps around the middle as my waist is the smallest of my measurements.

Even now that I am done it is actually quite roomy around my waist and I could run it in more but I probably won't as I can't be bothered.
It feels good and while probably not as flattering as it could be I like wearing it, so why mess with it.

I'm looking forward to making up the Passport dress for summer.
Don't hold your breath waiting though will you!

Happy to see some you sewing Kazz. Love a tunic top, yours looks great. Gee, and did everyone fight over who got the fun toothbrush, or does everyone have an equally fun one?

Now that I have seen it on a real person I really want that pattern. It looks great! Is it as nice and comfortable as it looks?

Oh, that looks really spiffy. I have just gotten this pattern from winning a giveaway that Yvonne had over at Little Munchkins blog. Inspired now!

Back from holidays and I just went through all my patterns throwing them in a big heap for clothes for me for summer. Wonder how far I will get before I get distracted by knitting or kids' clothing lol.

Looks fantastic Karen, I am glad you blogged it. I bought fabric for mine when my pattern arrived but I haven't even traced it yet! I still have a few things on my to-do-list then I am going to sew this one for me!

I think it's quite flattering on you. I've been watching the flickr group looking for flattering ideas of how to make this flattering for my full figure and I like your dark but not solid fabric choice. I'm going to have a look for something similar. Thanks for sharing!

It all looks just fabulous! :) Seriously. And there is nothing wrong with your bum shot. Great to see you sewing something for yourself :) Maybe I should bite the bullet and do the same? lol
Have a great weekend!
