When Misses L and A turned five in March - the only thing Miss A said she wanted was a Belle dress (the Disney Princess from Beauty and The Beast).
Given that I couldn't bring myself to buy such a dress-up, I decided to make one...
I carefully measured her to the pattern and had it to the stage where she would be able to try it on for fitting on the day of her birthday, with a view to finish it soon after.
It was so ridiculously big that with the thought of unpicking the zip and lining I relegated it to the side, and here it is today.
Miss L wanted a Snow White one.
I was much closer to finishing Snow White - just some sleeves and hem and a facing that I interfaced too stiffly that needs to be redone.
Yet here it is....
And as I had not yet finished the dresses for her older sisters, I felt it unfair to make the Sleeping Beauty outfit for the smallest child's birthday in July, so it is yet to be started.
So, my pledge is that by the end of Blogtober I will have finished the first two dresses and made a start on the third.
I don't enjoy sewing of this nature so I will do other things in between as a 'reward' for having done something on the slippery shiny dress-ups.
Now don't let me off easy - come back and keep tabs on me won't you...
Give me a kick up the bum as necessary!

As you know, I loathe sewing dress-ups (although I do seem to have made a few....) I'll remind you to finish these off!
You are so good Karen. I hate costume sewing, I bet you will be pleased to get these finished for the girls!
I would give you a kick in the proverbial if it weren't for the fact that I seem to have a large pile of partly finished garments laying about here. Glass houses; stones; throwing ... and all that sort of thing ...
Good luck!!
I hope my little girl will be happy with a super-hero cape when the time comes...
ooh ahhh! Your gorgeous little girls will just adore all that slippery sparkly princess gear ... go on 'make their day' ...!! Looking forward to seeing the finished post ....
Your lovely DDs will always remember that you made these special dresses so hang in there and post a photo when they are ready to wear.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you started yet? LOL I'd want to get that over and done with! Good luck.
You are a nice mama. I avoid this type of sewing!
Much nicer than me, we luckily have some hand me down princess dresses so I have never had to make them.
Wow! Disney patterns, that is such a great idea! Good luck getting them done - it looks like they are complicated!!
x
It will all be worth it when you see how happy they are when they're finished.
So, kicking you in the butt here. Are you done with these??
