Chewing like mad

Lately I feel a little like I have bitten off more than I can chew.

So what's the solution???
Give up the kinder committee?
Don't go out to dinner with my girlfriends?
Don't catch up with family?
Spend less time playing with my children?
Ban the sewing machine and computer for a while??

While it might be that I should do the last item to an extent I feel that these two things are a bit of a lifeline for the stay-at-home mum.

Creatively I would feel a bit lost without my little chance to 'make' something each day.

And the online community has afforded me the chance to make valuable and solid connections with so many really wonderful people, many of whom are also parents, making the same daily decisions and facing the same challenges that I find myself making.

So I don't want to lose that.

Instead I am choosing to take that large bite and chew like mad!

How do you it it all in your day?

Here's a few things on their way to completion for an impending birthday celebration...

Melly and Me Miss Mousie bag.

Someone who appears on Playschool....

A dress for the Oliver +s Ice cream dress sewalong - in which I am currently very behind!
I was lucky enough to win this fabric from Amy.
If you have any spare time in your day - head on over to Amy's place to check out the sewalong and maybe join in too.

I've given up sleep. Seriously. Okay, not all of my sleep (obviously) but with 3 kids, kinder, school, tennis, gymnastics, kindergym, dancing, not to mention feeding them and keeping the house on the right side of looking like a rubbish tip, I realised that if I wanted to get any 'me time' in which to sew then 10pm to 2am fits perfectly into my schedule.
I keep remembering that in no time at all the kids will be grown and I'll have too much time on my hands, so I'm trying to make the most of it!
Of course, when desperate, I also fall back on ABC kids for entertainment whilst I squeeze in an hour of sewing. Shh, don't tell!
It's not an easy juggle Karen, just keep swimming, and definitely don't give up time with friends, they will be the thing that gets you through.
xx

I always think its tempting to give up the kinder committee, but I guess its best to keep chewing!

Look forward to seeing the ice-cream social dress in those fabulous prints.

Lovely to see you yesterday. :)

That's like me too at the moment - bitten off more than I can chew.

I guess you have to try to find a compromise somehow which can be hard as you may have to give up something, or have less time to do something. For me, I find I have less time to sew, and less time on the computer these days. It's not really what I want but for my sanity, it's what I have to do at the moment.

P/S : I think you are wonderful too :)

I dont know how to juggle, but somehow, balls get thrown in and fall down. Maybe I wont get as much sewing done as i want, but i do get some done, maybe the kids will get to kinder late day, or have messy hair... We cant do everything, and we sometimes have to prioritise what is most important to us. For me sanity is that!

Lisa, I don't know HOW you do what you , I can't even keep up with my blog at the moment let alone everything else. Everything you make is seriously amazing, crafted with care, and with all of the other things you do, the crafty time is certainly well deserved. I wish there was a special time tree I could plant in my bck yard and pluck a bit of time fuit off every time I needed. Sadly there is no such thing, so you just do as much as you can, when you can and try to share yourself around a bit.

It has been a big year for you - kinder will be over before you know it and there will be school and sports and brownies and so on and more and more and you know what? You will adapt and absorb it in your stride, because you are like that!

You are a fantastic and mum and community member Karen, now breathe! LOL!

wow you do have soo much on your hands but as Gypsy said, our kids won't be this little for much longer.

you do need your own time though, going out with the girls & just taking a deep breath without hearing "mummmmy..."
hope you have a happy weekend Karen.

Oh I hear you... so much to do so little time.
I've started scaling back on some of my commitments. At the end of last year I was on the committee for two playgroups, a community centre and a toy library. I had taken on too much. As of last night I am no longer a committee member for anything. Phew. My shoulders feel so much lighter. I've also started scaling back on our weekly commitments - we now just go to one playgroup. There was a point when I realised that my children's favourite activity was hanging out with me just doing stuff - including creating.
Since having children my cleaning standards have taken a HUGE dive - this allows me more time as does cooking in bulk and freezing meals so that I don't cook from scratch every night... and yes - like Gypsy I've given up on sleep. Just last week both my children slept through the night without waking - the first time in months - and there I was wide awake unable to nod off into sweet dreams. Oh the cruel irony.

Good luck chewing and juggling Karen.
