Boring, but useful...

Ok this post is not mind-blowingly creative or anything - but it is super-handy!!

My overlocker is used a lot (and probably not serviced as often as it should be given its usage!!) so every now and then I try to give it a vacuum out with my Dyson hand-held vac, but sometimes even that is not enough.

So when 'the guy who lives here' said he was headed to Bunnings I asked him to pick me up some "canned air"!

Dodgy iPhone pic of a boring can on a dreary day - all the good stuff from me!!

He was, of course, happy to oblige though he was a little put off by the cost - about $15 a can apparently.

I gave my machine a good spray with this (it sprays air at high pressure) and was amazed at how well it worked. I almost wished I had a before and after pic to show you - though you'd have seen the disgraceful amount of fluff in my overlocker then.

Anyway - like I said, boring but useful.
Give it a go.

Useful is always good!
Thanks for sharing. I'll have to find a very clever hiding spot before I buy it to keep it away from the 10yr old boy. Can you imagine how much fun a kid (or mum) could have with a can of that!

Hi Karen!

I never knew such a thing existed! Air in a Can...who would have though. Thankyou for the heads up - I am currently doing a lot of rolled hems on sheer fabric on my overlocker so it will need a good clean out when I'm done. Kind regards, Kirrily :)

I read from one of the other sewing girls that you can get air in a can from Supa Cheap Auto for $2 a can. I have never vacummed or had my overlocker serviced and it is 3 years old. I need to get onto that.

Good tip! Yes I really should get my dear old overlocker serviced too, but that would mean doing without it for a couple of weeks!

I've been meaning to try this for my machines for ages. Thanks for the reminder and the review of its benefits!

I'd be very careful using canned air!

For some reason I can't insert the link but if you search for Bearhugquiltworks.blogspot.com and the post "Words to the wise" in January 2012 you'll see why I'd be cautious.
