Don't fall off your chair, it's not like I baked the cakes or anything, in the way that this very clever lady would have.
I cheat and buy very plain slab sponges from Coles, which I then decorate with copious amounts of butter frosting and lollies!
I put the first layer of icing on, then draw the design onto the cake using a toothpick - then it's pretty much like colouring in.
I do this rather than cutting the shape from the cake as it's quite hard to ice the cut edges of cake, they tend to crumble.
My efforts were appreciated and the 'big girls' had a very wonderful 4th birthday on Tuesday.
I think possibly the only downside of having twins is having to make two cakes!

Seems like you have 2 very happy girls there!
They look great! And, no, it doesn't matter that they are from Coles, it's the decorating that makes it look beautiful!!!
Bet it was yum too :)
Hapy 4th Birthday girls. Two cakes is an achievement - you do so ell to give them their own special day:)
Happy birthday big girls. The cake's look great but did you know if you part freeze a cut cake it makes it MUCH easier to ice?
Happy Birthday!!
Great looking cakes :)
Those cakes are precious! I would never have the patience to do something like that, probably because I'd eat all the icing first. Happy birthday to your daughters, they're pretty cute as well!
Karen they look great. Good idea about the slab cake too might have to try that
Wow awesome cakes!
Happy birthday beautiful girls xxx

Buying the cake is hardly cheating when you have made two such beautiful creations! Your girls look very happy with their beautiful cakes.
Oh these are fabulous! I'm am in the middle of making a cake for my husbands birthday tomorrow - bits are chilling in the fridge hence the blog hopping!
The cakes look fantastic! Huge happy birthday to both your darling girls xx
Wow 4...Happy Birthday to your girls. I like that idea with the cakes..I think I will be stealing it!
My twins are b/g 3 year olds. I had to do Starwberry Shortcake AND dinosaurs November. The invitation was hilarious - a dionsaur chasing SS....a little sick, but the kids don;t understand the bad humor in it :) At least yours can share clothing!!
Perfectly acceptable cheatery - love the outcome. As do your girls, clearly. I bet there was little sleep after so much cake!
Those cakes look AMAZING!! You are so good to make 2 of them!!
Oh Karen, can you and the-man-of-the-house believe four whole years have passed since your world changed? And that in just four years, those two little teensy tiny bundles are now big 4 year old girls?
Hope your girls had a great birthday and that you guys took a moment to remember and to celebrate your 4 year anniversary of parenting. xxx
You made two beautiful cakes, well done
