Letting go

Sometimes I am so intent on doing things the 'right way' that I end up not doing them at all.

I've wanted to make the girls felt food for some time as they are really into playing restaurant and kitchen games.
I hadn't done it because the thought of all the hand-sewing involved really put me off. Then a couple of nights ago I had a look around Flickr and Etsy and found all sorts of great felt food that didn't appear to be hand sewn.

Googling 'felt food tutorial' found me lots more examples of food to make and so I decided to give it a go.

I knew what shape I wanted the bread to be so just freehand drew the template then cut out a long strip for the crust. I stuffed them gently with polyfil.
Eggs and bacon were the same - a few rough sketches til I was happy with what I had then cut and sew. Easy peasy!

Each of the girls has two eggs, two pieces of toast buttered on one side and one rasher of bacon ( I ran out of the burgundy coloured felt!).
I sat them on a plate when they came out for breakfast and I have to say I don't think they mind the less than perfect sewing or occasionally choppy cutting.
So I am letting go, understanding that all doesn't have to be perfect, that for some things (and I stress I can only do this with some!) a little wonkiness is OK.

Love it! and I have to agree its fun to just sew and not worry about a little wonkiness here or there.

I love them - they look fantastic. I am like you too - I end up not doing stuff if I cant do them right and you prove if you just get started you can turn out some darn good stuff.

Looks good enough to eat.

Is it weird that I am feeling hungry looking at your handiwork here. Can't be that wonky then!

Karen, I have to laugh about not wanting to do something unless it's right. But as you've found it's good to let go, and I have to remind myself of that at times.

The food is fabbo!

Oh wonkiness is fine and half the fun of these - I made the crochet variety last year and they are still loved around here.

we know we are both on the same page, just not enough time - and machine stitching is more than just fine, it looks great!! I just can't show my girls or they'll want some too!

Karen they look AWESOME. My mouth is watering!!! And well done for facing your fears and challenging your ideals. The irony that not doing things the 'right way' turned out so right.

And I LOVE that you put them on your girls' plates for breakfast. I could almost hear the squeals!!

What a cool idea! My eggs never turn out perfect in real life, so they can certainly be wonky for play!
